Caps Gaming, the esports arm of Washington Capitals and Monumental Sports and Entertainment, has announced it will host a LAN event as part of its 2023/2024 esports efforts.
The Caps Gaming Showcase will return for the 2023/24 with the finals taking place at the team’s District E esports facility.
The Caps Gaming Showcase will see teams of six competing on EA Sports NHL for a chance to win a share of a $15,000 (~£11,934) prize pool. According to a release, the Caps Gaming Showcase prize pool is the largest the organisers have offered for a single division.
The event will see teams compete across an eight-week Swiss-format competition to determine the top 64 teams that will play in a single-elimination tournament to determine the winner. Open exclusively to North American players, the finals of the Caps Gaming Showcase will be held within the District E facility based in Washington DC.
Founded in 2019 as the esports arm of the Washington Capitals, Caps Gaming has established itself as a prominent brand within NHL esports. The brand has secured partnership deals with the likes of controller manufacturer SCUF Gaming and gaming chair brand Zipchair.
In addition to the Caps Gaming Showcase, the Capitals Club Championship will take place in January 2024. Players will compete for a $1,000 (~£796) prize pool and a chance to represent the Washington Capitals in the NHL24 World Championship.
Zach Leonsis, President of Media and new Enterprises for Monumental Sports and Entertainment, spoke on the news: “We’re incredibly excited about the upcoming 2023-24 season at Caps Gaming.
“We aim to continuously elevate the experience for our players and fans, integrating the thrill of traditional sports with the dynamic world of esports.
