Cozy Grove: Animal Crossing Meets Don’t Starve

Anyone who loves slice-of-life games like Animal Crossing was probably automatically drawn to the cute, unique artstyle of Cozy Grove. This cross platform game follows your customizable chibi-like character as you try and bring an island called Cozy Grove back to life. You play as a Soul Scout, which is a type of Girl or Boy Scout in this universe. Instead of selling cookies for a fundraiser, though, you’re instead searching for souls that need to be set free. Cute, right?

You wash up on shore and find yourself stranded on an island called Cozy Grove that is filled with lost souls. Instead of being ghoulish or scary, though, these souls are adorable, boxy bear-like creatures that offer you assistance by selling wares, purchasing your items or crafting you materials.

Each of them has their own story that you need to uncover tied with their unfinished business. The closer you get to uncovering these secrets, the more the island around them comes to life.

Waiting Away the Days

As with most of these types of games, time actually matters. This isn’t a game that you rush through in anticipation of an end goal. Instead you take it day by day with objects and prompts respawning depending on how much time has passed. If you find this type of thing tedious, this game won’t be for you. Even as someone who loves cyclical games like this, I found some of the scrounging and crafting tedious. Then again, I’m usually too lazy to craft much in any game.

Easy Achievements

On the flip side, the achievements for Cozy Grove (if you’re into that sort of thing) are easier than a lot of these types of games. Usually with simulating games–especially farming games–you have to reach certain checkpoints such as shipping one of each product such as in Stardew Valley. Cozy Grove doesn’t have anything difficult like that, instead mostly just having you collect badges as a Spirit Scout as you would a Girl or Boy Scout.

Overall this game has a beautiful, unique art style, replayability, an adorable soundtrack and a cool concept. If you’re looking for a chill game that’s nice to look at, check out Cozy Grove.
